AGILITY CLASSES

Agility Classes are offered at Carroll Indoor Sport Center, Westminster, MD in 7 and 6 week sessions beginning in April.  One handler per dog is allowed.

March 29 – May 10 – 7 weeks – Beginning Agility  @7:00pm

      May 24   - July 5   – 6 weeks- Intermediate  @7:00pm

      (no class on May 31)

            July 19  – Aug 30  - 7 weeks – Beginning Agility  @7:00pm

       Sept 20 – Oct 25 – 6 weeks- Intermediate  @7:00pm

 Agility Run-thru practice, just walk-in:

              May 17, July 12, Sept 13,  Nov 1,

Bring a copy of rabies certificate. $5 first run, $3 second run with same dog

·        First walk-thru time is 7:20pm – 7:28pm

·        First dog on the line at 7:30pm

·        Second walk-thru time dependent on last dog’s first run.

 Agility Class Registration opens in February for this year.

Send a copy of your dog’s rabies certification, signed registration form, signed waiver form, and check to: Tina Desrosiers at 1715 Spring Tree Drive Eldersburg, MD 21784.    You will not be put on the list until these items are received.  Placement in class in first-come.

Training Waiver Agreement

 ---IMPORTANT --- Agility class does not accept children under the age of 15 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  The parent or legal guardian must remain in the building during class time, but is not allowed in the ring with the child.  ONLY One Handler and one dog are a team during class.  If your dog can not participate in class after the first night it is suggested that the handler attend to continue learning handling skills.  No substitute dogs allowed.  This is a team sport for handler and their dog.

 Agility Class descriptions:

Beginning Agility:  This class is focused on building teamwork and introducing equipment skills.  Positive training is used.  Anyone registering must agree to the stipulations on the registration form and have positive off leash control of their dog.  Dogs participating in beginner agility must be a minimum age of 12 months old and physically sound. Class limit is 15 students.  Fee $80

 Intermediate Agility:  This course refines the dog-handler teams handling skills, increases obstacle sequences. Prerequisites:  successful completion of beginning agility or demonstration of skills comparable to beginning agility during scheduled assessment.  Class limit is 15 students.  Fee $80

  *******IMPORTANT******* all participants in the agility program are required to arrive 15 minutes early for classes to help set-up and are required to stay late to tear down the equipment. 

 CKC reserves the right to cancel a class due to low registration.  Equally, class size may be increased if the instructor and Training Director deem appropriate.

 Agility Equipment Usage:  Individuals are not allowed on the equipment without being supervised by an agility instructor.

 CKC reserves the right to refuse registration to any customer.

Verification of class will be sent to you by email prior to your class.  All classes require pre-registration.  You may not walk in and register for a class.

Lead Instructor:  Claire Schwartz,  

Assistant Instructors: Mark Friedman, Judi Ruff and Barb Atkinson 

 Claire has been competing in dog agility since 1993, having starting in England with a Labrador Retriever, and currently competes at the USDAA Masters level with his Swedish Vallhunds. He was an instructor of beginning, intermediate, and advanced dog agility for Merrimac Dog Training Club from 1996 through 2000, where he and his wife, Barb Atkinson, founded the MDTC Agility program. He has been an associate instructor for CKC since 2004. Claire has earned USDAA Masters, AKC Excellent, and NADAC Elite level titles on his dogs.

 Claire and his Vallhund male, Komet, placed 8th in the USDAA Nationals in 2008. Claire is also one of CKC’s Canine Good Citizen evaluators, does volunteer Canine Therapy work, and dabbles in Rally Obedience.  For the past 11 years he has been an Agility Judge for the US Dog Agility Association (USDAA).

 Mark has over 12 years experience as an agility instructor and over 15 years experience competing in dog agility.  He currently competes with his Papillions, Apple and Sky.  His achievements include Agility Dog Champions, Accomplished Performance Dog Titles for Apple and Flame, and Lifetime Achievement Bronze for Apple.    Mark has competed in 5 USDAA National Championship events. Throughout his years of agility involvement he has been an active member of various dog agility clubs. 

 Judi has over 8 years experience as an agility instructor for Carroll Kennel Club and years of experience competing in dog agility. She competes with her Cavalier King Charles at the excellent level and put AKC Excellent level titles on her dogs. 

 Barb started competing in agility in England (see Claire’s bio) in 1993 and is currently competing at the Master’s level of USDAA with 2 Swedish Vallhunds (Phire and Dordi).  She worked with Claire to found the agility program at Merrimac (southern VA) and is a founding member and current Vice-President of the Mid-Atlantic MADness agility club.  Barb also has trained and competed in Standard and Rally Obedience and volunteers with her dogs at Springfield Hospital.  She has been an instructor for CKC since 2004.
